THE SAMARITAN MANOR HOSTS COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH AT 3 P.M

120-bed facility introduces the neighborhood care concept to Detroit’s east side

DETROIT, MI November 28, 2007—The Samaritan Manor announced its first Community Open House targeted at seniors and caregivers. A new icon on the city’s east side, The Samaritan Manor addresses the need for skilled nursing care in the City, said Reginald Hartsfield, President of AMG, the management company and owners of The Samaritan Manor.

“This completely renovated, state of the art facility, housed on the fourth floor of Samaritan Center at 5555 Conner Avenue, brings 21st century care featuring the neighborhood concept to seniors and those in need of rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. With approximately 90 bed openings, we want the community to come out and see this new concept in skilled nursing care for themselves,” said Hartsfield.

The Samaritan Manor began accepting Medicare and Medicaid residents last month.  The Community Open House on Thursday, November 29, 2007 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. will provide overviews on Medicare and Medicaid which is often a confusing topic. “When family members need skilled nursing care for a loved one, they usually need to make a decision quickly. Our goal is to educate seniors and caregivers, in advance of their need, on Medicare and Medicaid while showing them the new neighborhood concept of skilled nursing care,” said David Duffy, Administrator, The Samaritan Manor.

Discarding the medical model of traditional nursing homes, the neighborhood concept focuses on personal care. With clusters of private and semi-private rooms, each wing or neighborhood hosts about 30 residents in a distinct, home-like atmosphere with a dedicated care team. Each of the four neighborhoods, Conant Gardens, Paradise Valley, Indian Village, and Chandler Park, have individual color schemes and décor, and boast a warm family lounge which serves as the central gathering spot for community gatherings and family visits.  Residents in each neighborhood share their own community dining room where dining and activities take place, providing another opportunity to visit with one’s neighbors.

Quality of life and dignity are of the utmost importance to residents and their families. “The staff makes every effort to honor personal choices and encourage independence and a sense of community. This neighborhood is now their short-term or long-term home. We want everyone to have a sense of purpose and to feel like they belong,” said Duffy.
